MORE THAN INSTRUCTIONAL OBJECTIVES

MORE THAN INSTRUCTIONAL OBJECTIVES

Why don’t Tru lessons have clear instructional objectives or a specific "take away"?

Much of today’s church curriculum tends to lean heavily on educational systems—where “learning” is measureable, and guides the teacher to evaluate effectiveness.

Tru has intentionally sought to lean more heavily on spiritual formation rather than education, while not abandoning the need for this generation to be well grounded in the knowledge and understanding of God and His Word. In the realm of spiritual formation, the teacher is the Holy Spirit and He chooses to instruct, convict, inspire, comfort, lead, and guide, when and as He chooses.

Tru allows for a time of response where the Holy Spirit can bring the child to a place of “how to apply” what has been learned, rather than a leader dictating, “now go do this ...”

While there are no concrete or even truly measurable objectives for each lesson, the objective is to provide an environment where God’s Word is taught, true to content and context; where kids investigate Scripture; and where God is put on display as the “main character” in every lesson.

While measurement is less structured, the times of storytelling on the Remember & Celebrate weekends, and from home life, prove that God is at work, creating a solid foundation for kids to hear God’s voice, desire to obey Him, and obey Him in the power of His Spirit.
